The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) said today that Michael Willner, Vice Chairman & CEO, Insight Communications and Johnathan Rodgers, President & CEO, TV One, will co-chair The Cable Show '09, the cable industry’s annual conference and international exposition.

CableCares Effort Leaves Legacy for New Orleans Students

The numbers are in for CableCares. The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) estimates that more than $900,000 in cash, equipment, and in-kind donations was raised for greater New Orleans as part of the cable industry initiative, a community service project to assist ongoing recovery efforts in the New Orleans area. More than 60 cable industry companies, organizations, and associations contributed resources to CableCares.

Key Public Policy Issues Featured at The 2008 Cable Show

The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) announced today that Carlos M. Gutierrez, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, will provide a keynote address at The Cable Show ’08, on Monday, May 19 at 4:30 p.m. Central Daylight Time. The comments of Secretary Gutierrez, the 35th U.S. Secretary of Commerce, will come at the top the Monday General Session at the Show.

Kaitz Foundation Expands Diversity Outreach at The Cable Show ’08

The Walter Kaitz Foundation, the cable industry’s foundation for diversity, announced plans today for its 9th Annual Supplier Diversity Connection Workshop in conjunction with The Cable Show ’08. In addition, the Kaitz Foundation also released plans for a first-time program, to be produced in conjunction with BET Networks, which will introduce minority students and professionals to technical opportunities available in the cable industry. The Foundation will conclude three days of convention activities by co-producing a panel with the Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau (CAB) focused on the importance of diversifying the workforce and marketing efforts to expand a business.

CableCares Effort in New Orleans Continues to Grow

The cable industry’s “CableCares” initiative, a community service project to assist ongoing recovery efforts in New Orleans has added several new initiatives, expanding plans for rebuilding school playgrounds and libraries, providing educational enhancements for city schools, and additional fundraising to support ongoing rebuilding efforts throughout the city.  CableCares will coincide with The Cable Show ’08, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s 57th Annual Convention and International Exposition, in New Orleans from May 18-20, 2008.

Matthew Blank, Chairman and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc. and Anne Sweeney, Co-Chair, Disney Media Networks and President, Disney-ABC Television Group, are the 2008 recipients of the cable industry’s top honor, the Vanguard Award for “Distinguished Leadership,” the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) said today.Sweeney and Blank top the list of nine Vanguard Award winners who will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the cable industry. Cable Show ’08 Will Demonstrate How CableCares

In an effort to show appreciation for a city that has hosted eight annual cable industry national conventions, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) today unveiled the details of a comprehensive community service initiative that will assist the New Orleans region in its long-term recovery from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Under the umbrella of the “CableCares” community service program, and with the assistance of the City of New Orleans, Cox New Orleans, and local organizations helping in the rebuilding efforts, NCTA has identified several areas of need which the cable industry and delegates to Cable Show ’08 will be able to address.

Keeping a commitment to return its annual national convention to New Orleans post-Katrina, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) announced today that The Cable Show ’08 is scheduled May 18-20, 2008 in the Big Easy. The 57th annual convention and international exposition, the cable industry’s premiere U.S. event, will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
