Rebuilding Playgrounds
A vast majority of neighborhood and schoolyard playgrounds in the city have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina, leaving kids without a place to run and play. Working with the national non-profit playground builder, KaBOOM!, a community partner and with design input from the kids themselves, we have a chance to fund and actually re-build some of these important, community play spaces.
CableCares, qubo Channel/Ion Media Networks, and non-profit playground builder KaBOOM! have partnered with a host of cable partners and volunteers to build brand new playgrounds for two very deserving elementary schools, Fannie C. Williams Elementary School and Sarah T. Reed Elementary School. The kids design them, we build them – together! Special thanks to qubo Channel for making the playground at Sarah T. Reed Elementary School possible.
How You Can Help:
To make these kids' dreams of a new playground come true, all we need is YOUR help!
Volunteer your time. Want to Help Rebuild Playgrounds? Sign up here. We need 250 volunteers for both playgrounds on Saturday, May 17 for approximately six hours to clear the lots, assemble the playground equipment and assist with the surrounding landscaping. Volunteer positions are still open for these playground sites.
