CableCares is working with diy network, to paint and landscape Sarah T. Reed High School, a hard-hit East New Orleans High School. Volunteers are still needed on Saturday, May 17 to assist with painting and landscaping projects. Thank you for support, our Sunday volunteer spot is now full. Make sure to tell your friends that we could still use their help on Saturday.

Project Information

Project Times: Saturday, May 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Ribbon Cutting: Sunday, May 18, 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Featuring: Amy Wynn Pastor, cable executives and local dignitaries.

For those volunteering on Saturday, May 17, plan to arrive at: 9 a.m. to the Morial Convention Center. Buses will transport you to the school and bring you back at 5:00 p.m.

For those volunteering on Sunday, May 18, plan to arrive at: 8 a.m. to the Morial Convention Center. Buses will transport you to the school and bring you back at 12:00 p.m.

Volunteer FAQ

  • Volunteer Transportation: All volunteers will be taken by bus to and from Sarah T. Reed High School. Buses will be located outside of Hall B. Please be sure you board the bus that has a sign reading “Sarah T Reed High School Beautification”. Buses will leave promptly at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. Please plan to travel to and from the school site via NCTA provided buses. You will be traveling to an area that is not frequented by taxi’s.

  • Waivers: While on the bus you will be asked to sign a waiver which you will turn in at the registration tables at the school. Every volunteer must have a signed waiver to enter the site.

  • Team Assignments: Upon arrival at the school, you will be given your team assignment. Assignments are random. This is an industry-wide project, so plan to bond with some new colleagues!

  • Volunteer End of Day: On Saturday, May 17, all volunteers will return to the Morial Convention Center via bus by 5 p.m. On Sunday, May 18, all volunteers will return to the Convention Center by 12 p.m.

  • Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: The project will conclude with a ribbon cutting ceremony that is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on May 18. All volunteers working on Sunday will be present.

  • What Should I Wear? We recommend that volunteers dress in comfortable weather-appropriate clothing that they do not mind getting irreversibly dirty. Closed toe shoes are required. CableCares will be handing out T-shirts to all volunteers before the day begins.The project will proceed rain or shine. Please bring an energetic spirit, challenge yourself, motivate others and have some fun!

  • Personal Belongings: Please do not bring purses and valuables to the build project. There will be no secure place for your belongings.

  • Will Volunteers be Fed on Build Day? Yes-- a well-fed volunteer is a happy volunteer! Breakfast, lunch and drinks to keep everybody hydrated and energized throughout the day will be provided. Breakfast is served before the kick-off to the day.

  • Restroom facilities are available on-site for all volunteers.

  • Do Volunteers Need Any Special Skills or a Certain Level of Physical Capability? No. Everyone has something to contribute. If you have any medical conditions that prohibits you from certain activities, please let Melinda Schwartz know immediately. Many hands make light work!
