tru2way Developers' Conference

The goal of the Developers' Showcase Challenge is to attract Java developers from the industry as well as from other areas within the Java Community to develop applications for the tru2way platform and Cable.

The Developers' Showcase Challenge provides an opportunity for developers to download tru2way toolsets, develop applications and submit them to NCTA for review. NCTA will invite those with the most interesting/compelling applications to attend and present at the developers' conference and display their application in the CableNET Technology Showcase throughout the show.

How to Register

Registration for the Developers' Showcase Challenge is now closed. Thank you to all that entered.

Requirements for the Application:

  • It must conform to the OCAP Java APIs as defined in the OCAP specification (any version).

  • It must provide a visual indication on a TV display that it is running successfully on a cable set-top box.

  • It must interact with two or more buttons on a set-top box remote control and provide visual feedback of that interaction.

  • It must be accompanied by a written description of what the application is supposed to do, and how to operate it.

Details:

Application Tools and Code

Application developers will be provided with a link to download a 90-day trial version of the VISION Workbench tool kit provided by Vidiom Systems.

Developers should submit a zipped VISION Workbench project. It is not necessary to include the application source code, therefore the src directory may be omitted from the zip file.

Media

Additional content may be used provided that the application developer gives written proof that such use of the content is within their legal rights and grants the NCTA permission to use said content for the purposes of judging the application and, should the application be selected as a finalist, for display in the CableNet booth for the duration of the show.

Server-Side Application Data

Any application relying on HTTP connectivity to an external resource should ensure that:

  1. The requested URL is publicly available.

    1. This is a requirement in advance of the contest judging so that the application may be evaluated; for the show the application developer may opt to provide a local version of the server-side application as described below

  2. The application accommodates the case that a network connection is unavailable, through local data to simulate network connectivity. Alternatively, the application developer may opt to provide a machine running any server components on-site for judging and demonstration purposes. This must be arranged in advance and all setup and configuration is the sole responsibility of the application developer.
